Renewing NWMP Energy Supply
Clean Co
Creating clean energy jobs

Overview

CleanCo and Neoen are exploring a combination of wind, solar, battery storage and firming technologies to bring affordable, low-emissions energy to the Mount Isa and Cloncurry regions within North West Minerals Province.

We believe that by taking a whole-of-province approach to sustainable energy solutions we can deliver a lower cost energy supply that achieves greater renewable penetration than other stand-alone options.

Through a blend of wind, solar and long-duration storage, our first stage project will provide a firm electricity offering at a 90% capacity factor at highly competitive prices.

CleanCo will engage with and secure customers, and Neoen will develop, build and operate the facility.

Location

The NWMP stands out as a location to pioneer this approach due to its world class mineral resources; its world class renewable energy resources, and its relative remoteness from alternative supply sources.

Neoen has partnered with CleanCo to deliver an integrated large-scale wind, solar and battery project for the North West Minerals Province.

CleanCo’s ambition is:

“To harness Queensland’s abundant resources to offer reliable, globally competitive low emissions energy services to customers, catalysing a sustainable and prosperous future for all Queenslanders.”

CleanCo believes that to meet its objective of delivering more renewable energy to Queensland, it needs to grow demand. We have a strategic aim of ensuring that more renewable energy is embedded in our extracted minerals to do this.

The CleanCo business model is to purchase the best renewable projects at a large scale to achieve the best price for energy, then to package this energy to meet customer needs. In the NEM, we have PPAs in place for more than 1,000 MW of renewable capacity and a portfolio of low emissions gas and hydro-electric generators to ensure supply to retail customers including Coles, BHP, and other industrials.

With a balanced portfolio of wind, solar and big battery projects, we are aiming to achieve 10 GW by 2030.

Our goal is to own and operate our projects and as long-term neighbours, we are committed to sharing the benefits with surrounding communities.

This dedication to community and environment has made us a renewable energy developer of choice. We have invested more than $4 billion in the Australian market and developed over 4 GW of renewable energy assets.
