Neoen
About Neoen
Founded in 2008, Neoen is the leading French independent producer of renewable energy and a major player on the world stage.
Our mission: we design and implement the means to produce the most competitive renewable electricity, sustainably and on a large scale.
Our total global capacity in operation or under construction is currently of 4.8 GW and we are aiming for more than 10 GW by end 2025.
OUR PRESENCE IN AUSTRALIA
Our Projects
HORNSDALE WIND FARM
Hornsdale Wind Farm is located between 8km and 24km north of Jamestown in South Australia, in the Northern Areas Council region.
It is a 316 MW renewable electricity project consisting of 99 wind turbines, providing renewable energy to be used locally and exported to the national grid. It is able to produce over 1,050 GWh of electricity, equivalent to the electricity needed to power 225,000 homes.
The project is underpinned by contracts with the ACT Government to support their achieved target of 100% renewables by 2020.
Hornsdale Power Reserve, also known as SA’s big battery is located next to the wind farm.
HORNSDALE POWER RESERVE
At 100 MW/129 MWh, the Hornsdale Power Reserve was the largest lithium-ion battery in the world for three years, and it was then expanded to a 150 MW/165 MWh battery in 2020. HPR is providing essential grid-support services, stabilising the South Australian electricity grid, facilitating integration of renewable energy in the State and reducing the chance of load-shedding events.
In addition to continued energy bill savings for consumers, the expansion also provides an Australian-first large-scale demonstration of the potential for battery storage to provide the stabilising inertia services that are critical to the future integration of renewable energy.
In June 2020, Aurecon undertook an economic impact assessment of the expected economic benefits the project would deliver for South Australia and, in particular, the region of Yorke & Mid North.
COLEAMBALLY SOLAR FARM
Coleambally Solar Farm is a 150 MW renewable electricity project which is owned and operated by Neoen. The project is located about 5km north east of Coleambally in NSW. It is able to produce over 380GWh per year, equivalent to powering 103,000 homes.
Construction started in January 2018 and was completed in October 2018. It has been operational ever since.
Coleambally Solar Farm provides employment to three full time staff as well as ongoing opportunities for local business and agrisolar partnerships. Agrisolar is the co-existence of agriculture and solar power generation on the same land. Since shortly after the start of operation, the Coleambally Solar Farm has sheep grazing among the panels. Neoen are proud to be agrisolar leaders.
The solar farm also provides additional benefits to the surrounding community through a $20,000 annual Community Benefit Fund.
DEGRUSSA HYBRID SOLAR AND BATTERY
DeGrussa consists of a 10.6 MW (AC) solar PV power plant with 6MW storage at the DeGrussa Copper-Gold Mine in Western Australia, owned by Sandfire Resources. It is integrated with a 19 MW diesel power supply, to provide baseload power to the mine.
Covering a total area of over 20 hectares, it was, at the time of commissioning, the largest integrated off-grid solar and battery storage facility in Australia. The project reduces the mine’s dependence on diesel to provide more consistent, clean and cost-effective electricity.
DeGrussa was Neoen’s first project in Australia. Commissioned in June 2016, the solar power provides the majority of the mine’s daytime electricity requirements, offsetting up to 20% of total diesel consumption annually and reducing its emissions by about 12,000 tonnes of CO2 ever year.
The project won a Golden Gecko Award for environmental excellence in 2019.
